Client Brief: Usually we focused on projects based in more statistical facts. Since this story was about the struggles greenhouse workers face it seemed more appropriate to do something more emotional. We were given interviews to start with.
Role: Art Direction, Photo editing, Motion graphics.
Process: I decided a collage style might hit the emotional cues more than our usual 3d diagrams. The challenge? AP rarely allows the use of stock imagery, so I dived deep into AP’s own photo archives to find photos I could work with and double checked with the Photo editor the rights were cleared. I worked closely with the Journalist and Climate editors to make sure the script wasn’t too long and also had some interesting visual verbage. Then I set off editing the photos and animating
