1st Art Residency, Seventh Continent. Tasmania

This year as my 2.5 year contract with the California Academy of Sciences comes to a close I decided to apply to a 3 art residencies and got accepted to the “All That We Are” Residency based in Hobart, Tasmania in the very south of Australia. This is particularly exciting because Australia was my final continent. My focus here is on a project I’ve been wanting to do since 2017. Wild Drishti. I was able to shoot and edit a lot footage while begin designing the main characters for the animation.

First I had a long layover in Melbourne to check out the Brighton Bath Boxes. These were the one of the coolest things I saw the whole trip.

Next I headed to Hobart. The Residency house was gorgeous and Simon and Victoria were amazing informative host. In addition to my animation project I also got the opportunity the practice calligraphy, cello, yoga, and explore the surrounding beaches.

Honestly found Sydney to be a boring city. Going places that have western culture where dark skinned people are minorities still lacks any difference for me. Enjoyed the museums a lot though. One of the most interesting things I experienced was a Protest at the Sydney Opera house against projecting gambling ads onto the sails. Seeing civil unrest is perhaps the most genuine experience you can have traveling. More info on the protest.

Lastly I went to the Philippines for a 10 hour layover. Great food, and great people.
